LIMITED EDITION STOUT JOINS RANKS OF WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE

Scottish microbrewery produces 200 bottles matured in famous Bowmore cask At only one year old, BrewDog - Aberdeenshire’s newest microbrewery – has developed a limited edition stout set to become one of the most expensive beers in the world.

Released to celebrate the brewery’s first birthday, the Paradox 1968 Islay Cask (10%abv) has been matured for 12 months in a 1968 Bowmore whisky barrel, infusing the stout with the essence and aroma of this high quality vintage. The acclaimed whisky first matured in the barrel sold for an impressive £1500.

200 bottles of the limited edition Paradox 1968 Islay Cask are being released for sale at £40 per bottle (330ml), and over half of the batch have already been pre-ordered by beer connoisseurs from around the world. Local designer, Johanna Basford, has designed sophisticated limited edition labels for each of the 200 bottles. Every label has been individually silk screen printed in Johanna’s Dundee studio using hand blended inks in rich gold lacquer and inky black gloss. The delicate hand-making of each bespoke label echoes the care BrewDog apply to each exquisite craft beer.

BrewDog has been producing Paradox, its whisky cask aged stout, since it launched in 2007. The stout has quickly built a strong reputation for itself among beer lovers and industry experts alike. This year the stout took gold at the Beer World Cup and was also named a category winner at Scotland Food & Drink Excellence awards. Every batch of Paradox is unique, flavoured by the particular whisky barrel that is has been matured in, and prices of the other batches start from £28 for a case of six.

BrewDog was launched in 2007 by lifelong friends James Watt and Martin Dickie (both aged 25). James Watt, Managing Director, commented: “I can’t wait to raise a glass of this special batch of Paradox to toast BrewDog’s first birthday. We’ve had a great first year, and to be producing beers of this quality in such a short time is exactly where we want to be. “Paradox represents everything that we love about brewing – it’s an innovative, uncompromising beer that isn’t for the faint hearted, uniting two of Scotland’s proudest heritages – whisky and stout.” Paradox is available to buy online at www.brewdog.com

A selection of BrewDog’s other craft beers are currently available to buy from Tesco and Oddbins stores across Scotland.
