BrewDog wins at National Business Awards

14.09.2008

TWO young entrepreneurs from the north-east were honoured last night at the 2008 National Business Awards for Scotland.

James Watt, 26, and Martin Dickie, 25, the duo behind Fraserburgh-based beer maker BrewDog, won the Tenon Entrepreneur of the Year Award for demonstrating exceptional vision and leadership.

BrewDog was set up less than a yer and a half ago and has already won a string of honours.

The pair have taken the brewing world by storm and secured deals with retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Oddbins.

They are also exporting beers to a fast-growing list of countries worldwide.

Last night's ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow Hotel was attended by more than 500 people. The National Business Awards for Scotland, sponsored by Orange, recognise and rewards excellence, innovation and success.

Philip Forrest, chairman of the judges, said: "The 2008 entry defied the reported atmosphere of doom and gloom about the economy and produced another outstandingly high-quality entry. The outlook of almost all of the finalists remained healthy, although an element of caution has been built into their forward planning. There is from this year's entry still evidence there is plenty of appetite for success in UK plc."
