Professor I.P.A.

Professor I.P.A.

29.03.2009

The BrewDog Atlantic Old I.P.A. our Second Anniversary Beer is due to be bottled in under two weeks time.

The fantastic plan utilised James‘ boat to make an ocean aged I.P.A. using an old recipe, some old whisky casks (previously used to mature Paradox then rinsed out before filling with I.P.A.) and a mackerel fishing season.

Obviously there are a few inaccuracies in that the Ocean Quest (our tea clipper) was steaming round the North Atlantic in Winter rather than the warmer journey round the southern tip of Africa.

We'd all like to be perfect but I think the crew from the Quest would still be searching for their mackerel quota off the coast of Madagascar had they headed for Kalcutta rather than 60'Lattitude.

What we are looking to achieve with our Atlantic I.P.A. project was to make a really cool and exciting beer that would demonstrate the change brought to beer by aging at sea in constant motion and recreate what an original I.P.A. may have actually tasted like 200 years ago.

There is someone we know who has all the answers.

One of the best of the new wave of beer writers since the mighty MJ...

Weighing in at just under 167 pounds...

The Barnsley Ballpoint...

Pete ‘Pale ale' Brown.

Pete has actually taken a cask of an original recipe I.P.A. brewed at Burton on Trent to India and has written his newest book on the whole adventure.

He knows the production process from start to finish and has researched the whole history brilliantly.

Once our Atlantic I.P.A. is ready for consumption we promise to get a tasting session set up with Professor I.P.A. himself and see how our ‘Atlantic expression' compares with the cask that he took on this Tall ship round the Cape.
