We are struggling slightly with capacity and space issues as we continue to build our business and move towards building our new eco-brewery. Indeed capacity has been a serious issue for us ever since we started brewing in April 2007. Consequently we have started working with a craft brewery called De Proef in Belgium who will help us out a little bit as we continue to develop BrewDog and try and share our passion for great craft beers with as many people as we can. De Proef have already helped out a number of the European craft brewing elite including Mikkeller and Beer Here.
De Proef’s small scale, amazing equipment, absolute focus on quality and pedigree in craft beer combined with Dirk’s Naudt’s (Owner and Brewmaster) exceptional brewing knowledge makes them the ideal candidate to give us a little helping hand brewing our beers. Martin and I have already visited their brewery a few times in 2009. This is not about getting our beer brewed at a larger brewery to keep costs down, BrewDog is not about that. De Proef brewery is a similar size to BrewDog and focus on quality not quantity. The beers will be brewed on a 40HL brew-house which is the same size as the BrewDog one. It is expected that this will only account for around 3-4% of our production in 2010.
It is not much, but a tiny amount of our beers will be brewed by Martin in Belgium along with some of the new Abstrakt series. The experience of brewing on an state of the art Velo brew-house will also be invaluable as it will be equipment like this that we will look to install in BrewDog phase 2. Having the odd batch brewed over there will enable us to keep growing our business and give us the stability and volume to build our new brewery and try and prevent the existing one collapsing under the current demand for our beers.
